Hello U10 and Active Start Parents!!!
We are your Active Start and U10 Directors and would like to welcome you to the 2020/21 Ringette Season. Our names our Dana Cyrenne and Heather Murray and we are here to guide you through this very different looking year of Ringette.
Dana is a Mom to 4 kiddos, two of whom play ringette. Hannah is starting her first year of U19 and Macey is in her 2nd year of U14. Dana has been a member of the SGRA board since 2017.
Heather is Mom to 2 kiddos, son Chase who is 15 and daughter Hannah who is 12 and will play her first year of U14 this season. Hannah started Ringette when she was 5 and the U10 program had just changed that year to its current model - She spent 5 years in U10 playing active start/ Step 1/ Step 2 and Step 3. Heather is excited to use her experience to help everyone navigate through this year! She has also been a member on the SGRA board since 2013.
For those of you new to ringette, Active Start is a beginner introduction to ringette designed for 4-6 year olds. U10 was designed by Ringette Alberta to allow girls to develop Ringette skills based on Long Term Athlete development (LTAD). That will look very different for every girl. Some will go through every step, some will start a different step, and some will be in the same step for a few years. Everyone develops at a different pace which makes the step program a fantastic place to learn new skills, make new friends and most importantly HAVE FUN!!!! More information is available on the Ringette Alberta website.
The SGRA Board has been working hard following and adapting to the constant changes and challenges that Covid-19 presents in areas of the world and in our lives. As outlined by a recent message from our SGRA President, this season will look different in many aspects in these unprecedented circumstances. We encourage you to read the President’s message to familiarize yourself with some of the changes.
As Divisions Directors, we ask for your patience and understanding on every level as we get this season underway and adapt to guidelines directed by others, including AHS.
We wanted to give the athletes some time to adjust to the new realities and expectations of school before throwing them into evaluations.
As such, U10 evaluations will commence after September 14, 2020 for all U10.
At this time, the U10 evaluation format has not been completely finalized, and may or may not consist of Universal Athlete Assessments (UAAs) and scrimmages as with other divisions and past years. That information will be communicated as soon as it is confirmed.
Evaluation schedules will be posted under the Evaluations tab on the SGRA website as well as communicated by all Divisions Directors both via email and on the Division homepage. It is imperative that you check your Division homepage regularly and not solely rely on email notification.
Priority for the 2020-2021 season start is to conduct evaluations in a safe manner.
Please be reminded that the board is made up of VOLUNTEERS, who also have careers, families and likely other children. We strive to get notices out in a timely manner however sometimes this poses a challenge and communication gets posted/sent later than anticipated. Please be patient and check often.
Thanks U10 Parents!! We look forward to a fantastic season with you all!!!
