U14 Evaluations and AA Tryouts

Aug. 24 - 2020

Welcome to the 2020-2021 Season!

For those who may not know me, my name is Robin Pedlar and I will be your U14 Division Director for this upcoming season. My family has been a part of SGRA since 2010/11 and I have been active on the Board in various capacities throughout the years. I am looking forward to helping the U14 Division this upcoming season.

Below is some preliminary info on U14 Evaluations, including AA Tryouts. We will be looking for volunteers to help throughout the process, but may limit the amount of volunteers due to restrictions with Covid-19.

Most importantly, please be advised that there may be limited to no access for parents to watch evaluations. This is largely dependent on location of skates and rules and restrictions placed on us by facilities as we need to account for volunteers, evaluators and also make it fair for all families within the Division.

NOTE:  Players are to arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to skate times. Players are to come fully dressed (with the exception of helmet, skates and gloves). Goalies may get dressed at the facility. If this changes, we will notify you ahead of time. Players can enter the facility and proceed to the check-in table but MUST MAINTAIN PHYSICAL DISTANCE from other players lined up to check-in. Should you see many players in line, please stand back or wait outside until there is sufficient space. Volunteers will be there to assist players. Should spectators be allowed in the facility, we ask that parents do not enter until after check-ins are complete and only after the evaluation start time.   Please talk to your athletes about maintaining physical distancing prior to evaluations.

EVALUATIONS

Specific evaluation information will be posted under the Evaluation tab on the SGRA website in the upcoming days. This Evaluation Plan Amendment is for the 2020-2021 season only and is adapted from our standard Evaluation handbook as it takes into consideration RAB, BGL and AHS guidelines.

AA Tryouts:

AA tryouts will commence with UAA on:

  • Tuesday, September 8th @ 17:00pm - 18:00pm  Stu Barnes

  • Wednesday, September 9th @ 18:30pm - 19:30pm Stu Barnes

Scrimmages will follow UAA.

*Note: Athletes not named to AA team, will not be allowed to participate in further evaluation skates with another cohort skate group. Athletes will be assigned to a team but may not participate with their team until the 14 day isolation period has passed.

AA Parent Meeting information will be sent out once a date is set.

Non-AA Evaluations:

All athletes not trying out for AA will commence with UAA practice skates as listed below with actual UAA assessments and scrimmages to follow:

  • Saturday, September 12th @ 7:00am - 8:00am  Stu Barnes

  • Saturday, September 12th @ 8:30am - 9:30am  Stu Barnes

  • Sunday, September 13th @ 7:00am - 8:00am  Stu Barnes

Groupings for UAA will be posted prior to the skates. Once UAAs are complete, skate groups for scrimmages will be formed. Please note: that skate groups for scrimmages will not change throughout evaluations as there will be no cross over or movement from group to group as was the case in past years. This is part of the safety measures being taken for this season.

Volunteers

Prior to each evaluation, we will call for volunteers. Please note that bench volunteers will be placed on the opposite bench to where your daughter will be playing on.  All volunteers need to arrive at the rink and check in at the sign in desk at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the ice time.

Evaluation Inquiries

Additional important information regarding player inquiries has been amended in the SGRA Team Formation Policy. The following is an excerpt that parents should be advised of:

4.0 TEAM ASSIGNMENTS

When evaluations are complete, players will be assigned to a level within a division and a team within that level. These placements are final. Players (or their parents) wanting information regarding their own (or childs) evaluation(s) and/or placement (UAA Score or Team Average Score) must be submitted in writing to the Division Director. Neither players nor their parents are permitted to inquire about the evaluation(s), standings or placement of other players. Requests may be submitted to the Division Director at the conclusion of the Team Formation process and will be responded to within (30) days of the request date. Inquiries submitted prior to the conclusion of Team Formation will not be responded to.

Please ensure you check for updates on the SGRA website (www.sprucegroveringette.com), including the U14 Division page.  I will endeavour to send out updates and information as they become available. Again as a friendly reminder, Board members are volunteers giving their time and energy to make the season happen. Please be mindful of this when you have questions or concerns. I will be your first point of contact for all questions within the U14 Division throughout the season and will always be more than happy to assist and listen.

Please enjoy what is left of the summer and fingers crossed for great weather! See you all in the rink.

Sincerely,

Robin Pedlar
